Mandatory ESG Reporting: TEK-PAK's Role as a Leader in Eco-Friendly Solutions

In the face of increasing regulatory demands and global pressure for sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting is becoming a requirement for more and more companies. This trend will significantly impact the corrugated packaging industry, opening up new opportunities and challenges. At TEK-PAK, as creators of eco-friendly corrugated packaging, we are ready to meet these demands. We support companies in their environmental actions, promoting sustainable solutions and transparency in business.

What is ESG reporting?

ESG reporting covers three key Company's areas of activity:

  • Environmental (E): Environmental impact assessment and management for companies. This includes greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, energy efficiency, and sustainable resource utilization.
  • Social (S): The company's relationships with employees, customers, and communities. This includes, among other things, employee rights, working conditions, impact on local communities, and social activities.
  • Corporate Governance Company management principles, including board structure, business ethics, operational transparency, and legal compliance.

Key stages and deadlines

More and more countries, including European Union member states, are introducing regulations regarding the publication of non-financial information. Consequently, the scope of obligations for businesses is increasing. In particular, they require large companies to disclose data related to environmental protection, social issues, and corporate governance. Importantly, this obligation will, over time, encompass smaller and smaller companies, ultimately leading to full transparency across the entire economy.

The implementation of mandatory ESG reporting regulations will be phased in, depending on the size of companies. Initially, it will cover the largest listed entities, banks, insurers, and parent companies of large groups, starting with financial years after December 31, 2023. From 2025, the regulations will apply to large public interest entities and parent companies of large groups with over 500 employees. In 2026, the new requirements will affect all large companies employing over 250 employees. From 2027, these rules will also apply to small and medium-sized listed enterprises, with the exception of micro-enterprises.

ESG Reporting Obligation: What Does This Mean for the Corrugated Packaging Industry?

  1. Increased demand for eco-friendly packaging: Companies that must report their ESG activities will strive to minimize their carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices. This will increase demand for eco-friendly cardboard packaging, which is more environmentally friendly than traditional plastic or Styrofoam packaging.
  2. Innovations and Technology Development: To meet new demands, corrugated packaging manufacturers will invest in innovation and development of new technologies. These, in turn, will allow for the production of more eco-friendly and efficient packaging.
  3. Competitive advantage Companies that quickly adapt to new requirements will gain a competitive advantage in the market. Transparency and commitment to sustainable development will become key elements of brand building.
